Peep Show to return for final seriesDavid Mitchell and Robert Webb will reunite for a ninth series of the Channel 4 show David Mitchell and Robert Webb will resume their roles as Mark and Jez and reunite for a ninth and final series of the popular Channel 4 comedy Peep Show, it was announced today. Series 8 of the show ended in December 2012. Screenwriters Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, who have written for the series since it began in 2003, will return for the new episodes. Back in January, Bain confirmed that, although the ninth series will mark the end of the show, viewers shouldn't expect too dark an ending for Mark and Jez. The writer told the Radio Times: "We don’t plan to kill them off so the opportunity to do more would be there if we chose to." Last year, Mitchell said that he felt as if the show was coming to a natural end, commenting on the age of lead characters Mark and Jez. "They're getting older, you know, and they're a bit old to be sharing a flat together," the actor told the website Digital Spy. "It's always been heightened reality, but it's always been a credible reality on Peep Show and I think if it got to a stage where people were saying, 'I don't understand why these people are cohabiting', then it would've jumped the shark. "So I think we've got to contemplate the possibility of it winding down. But who knows, 20 years later, they might come back together in old age." The new series, which is expected to consist of six epidodes, will be filmed next summer and broadcast on Channel 4 towards the end of next year. Source
